About sealaunay

A love of the ocean, adventure and the simple pleasure of sailing, coupled with a natural, creative talent have conspired to ensure that Christophe Launay is one of most inspiring photographers to emerge from France in recent years. His portfolio is a testament to his life experience with images ranging from powerful visions of offshore yacht racing, to serene and beautiful underwater compositions.

Now based in Europe, Launay was born in New Caledonia in the Pacific and grew up on the French island of Reunion. He trained in photography in Los Angeles and furthered his artistic experience in Paris where he worked with the influential modern art photographer-videographer, Mondino for 5 years at the critically acclaimed design agency, Janvier.

For twelve years, Launay resided in Australia where he split his time between freelance work as a photographer and racing on high-tech performance yachts - a combination that has equipped him well to take pictures in even the most challenging conditions - from a chase boat, helicopter or onboard. As a yachtsman, Launay has sailed thousands of miles - during classic boat regattas in the Mediterranean and transoceanic voyages by Superyacht to famous races such as the ill-fated 'Sydney-Hobart' in 1998.

Aside from yachting publications, Christophe frequently contributes images to the national and international press and has worked on several advertising campaigns for well-known global brands such as Rolex, Hugo Boss, Banque Populaire, Macif, Sony, Amstel, JP Morgan... His photograph of a 49er racing towards the Sydney Opera House was selected as the official image to promote the 2000 Olympic Games, while his dedication to capturing the adrenalin and action of offshore racing, has led to several celebrated exhibitions.

Christophe Launay is currently represented by Aurora Photos (New York, USA), which distribute his images to magazines and advertising agencies, locally and worldwide.
