Another surreal view from the lens of Christophe Launay, this time from the Sodeb’O shed in La Trinité, where the big trimaran is being cleaned up and mothballed until Thomas Coville gets back from his Volvo Ocean Race campaign aboard Franck Cammas’ Team Groupama.
Meanwhile, Francis Joyon, Coville’s nemesis in the record-breaking game, is on standby with IDEC in Brooklyn, NY, readying for his chance to crush Coville’s solo transatlantic record of 5 days, 19 hours, 29 minutes and 20 seconds. For comparison’s sake, Rambler 100, the most powerful and modern of racing monohulls, just had a brilliant crossing last week of 6 days, 22 hours, with about 20 more mouths to feed than Joyon…

Restoration of the 26 year old C Class Catamaran Patient Lady VI under the auspice of Benjamin Muyl, Herve Penformis, Axel de Beaufort and Sam Thomas at the Ecole Nationale de Voile, Saint Pierre Quiberon.
Patient Lady VI was “given” to Benjamin Muy from Fred Eaton for 1 symbolic dollar, it ‘s actually the only C Class in continental Europe (Invictus is in the UK)

Commissioned in 1929 by Captain Guy H MacCaw whose brief to William Fife was simply: ‘build a sound, safe cruiser, safe to go to the south seas islands in with no anxiety’. Fife was then 73 years.

Onboard Velsheda during “Les Voiles de Saint Tropez”, France. Designed by Charles Nicholson and built by Camper & Nicholson in 1933 for Mr W.L. Stephenson, Owner of Woolworth chain of shops, she was built in 1933 at Gosport.

Shamrock V

Shamrock V (JK3) during “Les Voiles de Saint Tropez”, France.
Shamrock V was built in 1930 for Sir Thomas Lipton’s fifth and last America’s Cup challenge. Designed by Nicholson, she was the first British yacht to be built to the new J Class Rule and is the only remaining J to have been built in wood.
